BIOGRAPHY
David Oshana was born in the winter 1929 in the city of Kermanshah. His father was employed with Youlen Company, which was the contractor for construction of railway in south of Iran that made Oshana's family move to Ahwaz where David completed his primary education in Kamal Primary School (1953). Then, his father, was... transferred to Zanjan where David started his secondary education. It was the time he got interested in music. With an organ he had inherited from his aunt, he entered the world of music. His artistic activities in the cultural house in Zanjan led to holding concerts in Abhar and the neighboring villages.

David continued his secondary education in Tehran and first in Friouzbahram high school and then in Alborz high school where he studied the last two years of secondary education and graduated. At this time he started designing and painting. He took part in the entrance examination held by the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1951 and was admitted. He continued his studies in this Faculty after one year and studied in Engineer Forooghi Gallery. And finally he was graduated in July 1963 after presenting his thesis. The title of his thesis was "The shrine of Christians in Jerusalem".

Engineer Oshana, after graduation, was employed with the National Oil Company and after 27 years of activity, he attained retirement in 1990. When working for the National Oil Company, he was active in his private office. Activities of David in his private office in the early 1940's and the late 1950's formidably affected the architecture at the time in the country. A large number of projects in residential architecture implemented by him show his meticulous and delicate architecture in design and construction.David Oshana is an architect, master in several arts. In addition to architecture, he has made considerable activities in music, painting, design and manufacture of automobiles. In music, he has the honor to be in the position of Manager of Radio Music Programs in "French House of Culture" in 1951 in the age of 22, participation in Tehran Radio Jazz Orchestra in 1953 and also different concerts of Assyria.

One of the publications of the 1940's entitled "Tehran Assyrian Concert" writes: the music performed in the concert has been selected from the most genuine Assyrian poems such as "Dalileh", composer of Nabu Isabi, which was performed with choir and the sound of Sankhirib, soloist, made the song more attractive. "The bloom of jungle" created by William Daniel, an Assyrian composer (the son of shepherds, made by Nabukeh Asor Hadon, with its soloist's attractive songs) in 1918 and in the end Janiman, whose music was composed by David Oshana.

The architect, David Oshana, has a personal style in painting. Repetition of fixed patterns in his works for expression of what is meant by a painting is considered as an innovative and personal style. In designing and making hand-made automobile, a series of automobiles named "Oghab" (in Assyrian language "Nishra") 1, 2 ... were designed and Produced by Oshana. Oghab 2 with its new and beautiful design was advanced in designing achievements of Automobile at the time.

It is interesting to say that the harmonic design is created with a simple geometry consisting of direct and circular lines. The main artistic activity of David Oshana is "Architecture". Oshana's architecture began when his university education was being completed. Assyrian Church of Protestants located in Amir Abad and also Assyrian Eastern Church are the first works of him.

In the 1940's David Oshana designed the volume of building by direct line elements of linear, surface and volumetric compositions. In the late 1940's and the early 1950's, the volumetric compositions of architectural designs similar to those in 1940's form with circular elements this time. The main materials in these eras consisted of stone with light colors in composition with metal elements including fence, staircase and exposures with deep turquoise. The architectural works remained from the this era continue the styles of 1950's but has approached the private style of the architect in a way that the architect's work has become more prominent compared with works of other architects.

In the early 1950's, the architect's work style escalates from traditional architecture to modern. Stylize forms of semicircle ceiling, angular ceiling and shades are elements of volumetric compositions of the architect. Inside and outside the traditional architectural decorations there are modern and/or genuine features, including laminated tile works with modern designs and mirror mosaic of architectural tradition.

The architecture of David Oshana was published in different periodicals in 1940s and 1950s and his automobile designs were attracted to newspapers. He was thanked in an official ceremony. Architectural Engineers Association awarded him the Diploma of Appreciation in 2000 in the 60th anniversary celebration of the Faculty of Fine Arts. The architect's cultural and artistic activities after 1950's added to his records and honors, which still continues (2003). But, the value and effect of the architecture of the Engineer David Oshana in 1940's and 1950's and his role as a pioneer of art will remain in the architectural history of Iran.
