Description
The 106 Residential Building in the city of Mehrshahr is located within an area with abundant vegetation and green spaces, which offers great potential for the residential apartment building typology. The location allows for the reception of adequate natural light from all directions and provides good views towards its surroundings, helping the apartments’ interior spaces be flexible and more pleasant to live in.
The program consists of three residential floors above ground, while the lobby, car park and swimming pool are situated on the ground and underground floors. The need to respect a right-of-way of 1.5 meters from east and west, one of 2.5 meters from the north and a 60 percent from the south gave us a construction territory with 1-to-4 elongation. Cross cuts through the initial volume and the creation of voids within the main mass lead to the generation of an overlap between the project’s program and form. Providing us with proper light penetration and partitioning of the different sections of the space, these cross cuts were a good way to make this elongated building more inhabitable.
Therefore, the private spaces (4 bedrooms) were placed in the northern side of the apartment, and the public living room was placed in the south. The vertical circulation, each unit’s entrance, the kitchen and the private living room were positioned in the center. The cross cuts, in the form of skylights and vertical windows, provided adequate views and lighting in addition to defining each unit’s three previously mentioned sections.
The presence of tall pine trees around the building served as an excuse for us to create additional cuts through the main mass from other points, in order to provide the interior spaces with good views and natural light through the side facades. Additionally, considering the empty lot to the west of the building, these cuts prevented the perception of a massive uniform façade from the main road.
