Description
[ A project for recreation of valuable feature of Tehran urban decay in the region 7 ]
Apartment No 74 was a four story residential, built in a narrow long lot ( a width of 5.5 meters and a length of 13 meters), located in Nezam Abad, Tehran. The infill site was accessible through both northern and southern streets. Client’s main request was to design the building in a way it could be easily sold considering financial situation dominating Tehran’s urban deteriorated fabric.
Its small width was the main challenge while trying to propose the best alternative possible. Contemporary architecture of Tehran in Nezam Abad, specifically buildings which were designed and built during the 2nd Pahlavi era was our main resource to overcome the challenge. with a rapid field study we were able to extract brilliant solutions regarding issues such as urban facade and the matter of urban dwelling. Using narrow and tall formal elements in designing the facade was the answer we borrowed to accentuate building’s entrance. Having perforated brick facade was another technique we applied, just by a quick walk around the neighborhood.
