Introduction

In 2010 our group TDC was approached by client who was looking for a unique building to be constructed in a 320 square meter rectangular shaped land. The plan was constructing a 7 –story building covering 1344 sqm including 5 residential apartment in 5 floors , parking in 1 floor and recreation facilities ( indoor pool , sauna and Jacuzzi ) in 1 floor.

Concept

The exterior was designed approaching an abstract concept inspired by trees’ branches and leaves form. This design is based on light and shadow play, categorizing layers into 3 types: 1- transparent 2- translucent 3- solid.

The variety in  shapes of facade added by sunlight angels have an incredible and undeniable unique effect on the interior since by every inch of movement we have a new lighting and shadow dancing , providing different depth to the interior creating a feeling of being in a borderless space.

Strategy

Creating a dynamic façade was a strategy in design process. In this expression, façade is an item which could be changed by its users. We approach to a new aspect of façade which does not believe in to any border between in and out.People live inside are the director of architectural scenario.

Technique

The whole facade is consisting of 20 semi-empty panels. Each floor’s façade is covered by 4 of the panels and an empty space with the same size of a panel, all located on two rails providing the advantage of adjustability and movements to the panels. Panels complete each other 2 by 2 providing a semi-transparent shadow. All 4 panels can be moved all along the rails horizontally providing infinite choices to the resident who can control the panel movement from inside.
