Description
Located in Mazandaran the site of the project is a narrow rectangle with the length of 50m and width of 14m approximately 300m from the Caspian seashore. The smaller side of the site faces the sea but since there is a big factory area in the north, there would remain only a limited view of the sea. This played an important role during the design process in terms of spatial organization, perspective and interior and exterior geometric composition. On the other hand the brief was to design a single unit type.
The architectural answer to the problems mentioned above was manifested as two villas– 200sqm each- one beside and behind the other one, both facing the Caspian Sea in the north and mirrored along this axis, so that even the southern villa has a proper view of the sea. Utilization of a kinetic geometric structure as well as varied colors allow a variety of faces and facades when viewed in different angles, thus neutralizing the sense of repetition to a large extent.
The main circuit of circulation and the staircases on one hand maximizes the view of the sea at different levels (the living room and the rooftop) and on the other hand expresses and articulates the sense of motion and vitality present in the formal language. It turns the underused area of the roof into an outdoor observation platform with a view towards the sea. Thus we have two statue-like buildings demonstrating the movements towards the observation platforms while not blocking each other’s views, creating an in-between space of dialog of forms.
The larger part of the floors area including two bedrooms, living room, balcony and the roof staircase is located on the upper level and the kitchen, dining room and master bedroom are on ground floor. There is a kitchenette between these two major parts making possible an extra option for using the floors independently.Maximum brevity and simplicity of architectural details in an attempt to demonstrate the main idea and the structure of the design and preventing them from being violated during later design and construction phases was in the center of attention.
The structure is composed of a concrete framework, joist and hollow brick ceilings plus light steel sloped ceilings attached to the framework on the roof level. There is a mechanical room on the ground floor. The heating and cooling system consists of radiators and AC split units. A small part of the roof is also dedicated to the mechanical installations. The construction phase of the project started in 2006 and ended in 2011.
