Description
MahdiAbad is a district of old gardens around Yazd that has now become a part of the city with a few remaining gardens. This house with an area of approximately 950 m2 is built as a part of an old family home garden which extant in that mentioned district.
Idea processing:
We had a long extensive discussion with our client to adjust a physical plan and to get our understandings of the subject closer. Overall we have attained 3 main approaches for the design of the building:
1. To beget privacy and eliminating troublesome views from surrounding buildings
2. To make building faces towards the old garden
3. Consideration of the climate, shading and city orientation, while observing items 1 and 2
Space separation:
We`ve tried to have a correct iteration of Yazd traditional house patterns and concepts and reconstructing it in a modern version. The Spatial organization was shaped through a conscious processing according to the needs and concepts. Home spaces were defined in six main sections:
1. Guest room: with an independent entrance including a reception room, a dining room and a guest bedroom.
2. The private sector: which is dedicated to a living room and bedrooms evokes the concept of the privet section in traditional houses.
3. Kitchen: our definition of kitchen is differs from the old traditional kitchen position in the traditional houses. In this house kitchen position and the merged cooking space are in connection with private living room, dining room, guest room, the main courtyard and the Narenjestan yard and flow of life is considered in this area
4. Top Floor: with access from both inside and outside for guests who stay for a long period of time.
5. Narenjestan yard: a sunken garden with a Fountain and sour orange tree. Exercise room, maid house and other service areas has taken shape around it.
6. Main yard: with large swimming pool and a sitting zones which faces towards old garden with privacy of surroundings.
We had five principles in mind while designing the project:
1. Purity, simplicity, ease of access
2. Spaciousness
3. Sense of belonging and memorabilia
4. Implying the sense of tranquility and privacy
Efficiency:
In our design pathway, Our focus was to get a good performance and ease of construction and operation of the house and it Was intended in every aspect from Spatial layout to Design details and choosing the constructional and facility systems . For example, we choose evaporative coolers for our cooling system which can be useful in the Warm and dry climate of Yazd. We have established flow of Water around the house using the garden subterranean water, and finally water flows Into the Garden to irrigate the garden.
