KAARMAAN, The house of work and network is the first business lounge in Iran. This function, business lounge or co-working space is localized according to Iranian work’s culture and situation and of course the old building was adapted to all interventions. Our creative job was to understand the language of an abandoned house and time defines functions for at the same time and eventually impose them to create an architectural space.
An Iranian business lounge. Considering, in what the house spaces should be converted or what the building identity is in its new life and how much the body should change due to our extension or elimination also we should make sure that who is going to experience upcoming spaces and what kind of Connotation will transmitted through the spaces.
Our approach to elements such as interior vaults, Howz-khane and pool was very innovative. In this old building there were too many Iranian traditional elements that were the language of the house, reusing those elements and considering the formal language of house as an axis in terms of shape and concepts , become our main architectural idea to start designing.
Considering Sensual contents made itself clear that, this building has very dynamical potential in some parts also in another parts inviting to silence and relaxation. Also we have found axis which in terms of semiotic and conceptual helped us do make definition for the spaces to create totally new spaces.
Because of urban expansionist strategy, Tehran’s old houses one by one going to be vanished and destroyed or in an incorrect way of renovation due to gentrification the loose their soul. We were looking for a method to keep the sence of Iranian figures of the house as far as possible and give them a contemporary meaning. That’s why this recent architecture sometimes was in paradox position with the past and sometimes had companionship with.
We have five types of users here .staffs, members, member’s guests, exclusive members, artist. According to work culture in Iran each of this groups need spaces and requirements which were very necessary and important to consider them in our designing and understand their spatial approach in terms of functional and visual.
This project was a FAST TRACK project, we did both design and execution together in same time and we had only six months to restoration and initiate an abandoned old house with several serious problem inclusive. Therefore from the stage of idea we should thing about executive methods at the same time to design and execution in short time with the optimum expenses.
In this short time that we had to do design and execution we also didn’t have a chance to go back or delay during procedure to have some idea or changing the operation not even in a single part. And our firm was ready every day to face with anonymous problems belongs to the site which are the character of restoration and remodeling projects and ready to find solution for them.
