Description
In a 5000 sqm. land, located in Arian Baghshahr in Alborz province, a 600 sqm. villa is designed and built on three floors for a young couple who love parties and friendly gatherings. We started our works by spending time with our clients to become familiar with their lifestyle and being able to meet their expectations properly. This was our way of starting the design process. Besides, the incompatibility of land topography with Agriculture Jihad Organization, climate conditions, and determination of specific views to and from the building were the fundamental factors that shaped the design.
In designing suburb villas that are often used for a short time in the weekends or holidays, it is required to activate a sense of dynamism in the architecture by creating diverse spaces with different areas and heights as well as conceiving connections between the exterior and interior of the building. A design that only tends to aestheticize the volume of the building disregards the spatial relationships and internal links taking place inside the building, resulting in a decrease in the living quality of the house.
Among our design principles is creating spatial qualities that encourage inhabitants to explore and experience spaces with different semantic layers through dynamic spatial elements. These semantic layers and the temptation of moving in the space is the result of an interaction between the framework and environmental lighting conditions that are designed precisely and work reciprocally, such as the play of light on interior walls through the louvers, openings, and windows, with their specific orientations and shapes. These are the factors that directly determine how the framework may operate according to the climate. This dynamic interaction promotes and influences the inhabitants’ perceptual and phenomenological experience in both aesthetics and welfare functionalities.
Due to the clients’ demand for a private yet accessible swimming pool, we looked for a form that controlled views towards the swimming pool and also restricted the access to the building. Therefore, we chose to design an L-shaped villa that could also receive the sunlight on the southern side. With this form, we created dynamic exterior and interior spaces that surrounded the pool. Locating a porch at the joint of the blocks shaping the L was an advantage. It was managed to be a place where the users could gather together during all seasons and offered a proper condition for guests to have a physical and visual connection with the building.
The public spaces of the villa are linked together by stairs not only through visual factors but also physically to create a monolithic space for weekends’ fun and entertainment. Detailed design of the stairs was crucial and was quite a unique experience as the stairs were different in shape and form. Stairs were not considered as a mere connecting element, they were also designed as vertical accesses, creating spaces with distinct experiential qualities.
The disco, being the most important space for our clients, was located in the basement to control the noise. The challenge was designing its entrance and interior in a way that eliminates the feeling of being underground. Therefore, we created a platform to have separate access to the dance hall as well as providing an attractive entrance where people go to the basement through a low slope.
Avoiding costliness and expensive materials, our purpose was not to create merely luxury architecture but spaces with high quality that offer a unique experience. Therefore, we built the project with average expenses, using economical construction technology, maintenance systems, and materials.
