Description
In the region of Kordan, 50 km west of Tehran, horse ranches and orchards make up the perfect inspirational landscape. Surrounded by its own orchard of blossoming cherry trees, this domed-home honors traditional desert mud-brick architecture. From the outside, the mix of curved and angled walls seem to rise from the ground as an extension of nature. Designed to be a small, one-bedroom home studio, it is simple yet incorporates the different elements of Iranian architecture.
Following this theme, a courtyard was included on the western side, connecting the interior private spaces to the sky. A sky-lighted dome sits atop the bedroom, and tile and woodwork support the interior design and framework. The entrance to the home opens beneath a series of steps leading up to the rooftop terrace, which can be covered partly or left open to the sky. In this way, it offers a space for the Baharkhab1, for warm weather outdoor sleeping, typical of traditional Iranian architecture. From this vantage, the northern view of the mountains can be seen, and overall the home is configured to complement the surrounding views. With its smooth contours and natural materials, this weekend home blends into the skyline background of the foothills of the Alborz mountains.
