AmirAli Sardar Afkhami, born on November 22, 1929 in Tehran. He is one of the leading and prominent Iranian architects. He passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the age of 91, Paris-France. His wife, Mrs. Leila Farhad Motamed, is the daughter of Dr. Ahmad Farhad Motamed, one of the former deans of the University of Tehran during the years 1963-1957.

In 1944 (1323), when he was a high school student, he went to France to continue his education. After entering the field of architecture, he graduated as the first student (outstanding student) at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Sardar Afkhami returned to Iran after receiving a doctorate in architecture from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Paris in 1963 and began teaching at the University of Tehran until he left teaching due to a dispute with Houshang Seyhoun (then head of the Faculty of Architecture). He worked  in his office in Tehran, "Sardar Afkhami Consulting Engineers Company".

Sardar Afkhami left Iran for France shortly before the revolution 1979 due to family issues (education of his children), but after leaving Iran, like many architects before the revolution, he did not return to Iran for various reasons, and he had lived in Paris since then. AmirAli Sardar Afkhami can be called context-oriented architecture. He always insisted on using bricks in the design and execution of his buildings.
