Performing Art Centre

Name: Performing Art Center

Location: Azadegan sq., Kermanshah, Iran

Architecture Firm: Tajeer Consultants

Architects in Charge: Ali Akbar Saremi, Javad Bonakdar

Date: 2007 - 2008

Type: Cultural

The centre takes a cue from ancient stonework carved in the fourth century AD in nearby mountains, aiming to bring the calm and grace of that monument into its chaotic urban context. There are three main parts to the complex: the first is a performing hall seating 640; the second houses a 220-seat cinema, a 100-seat seminar hall, a library and offices; and the third - the space between the two - is used for varying events and exhibitions and includes an amphitheatre. Situated in a small park surrounded by housing, the complex serves its local community as well as representing the key cultural building of the region.
