The Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia

The House of Love and Faith

The field of human civilization and culture is so vast that many of its angles have still remained undiscovered. The growth of science and knowledge in the Islamic world and other communities has created the need to gather collections containing information regarding  the current knowledge as well as the definitions and jargon used in that particular field of knowledge. This need has moved some scholars to author various series of books in those fields. The Center for the Great Islamic Encyclopedia was founded in February 1983 to realize this goal. This center was established through the efforts and management of Mr. Seyed kazem Mousavi Bojnoordi.

To accomplish this task a piece of property was selected in Darabad, Tehran. Since 1991 the alteration in the design of the original structure and the coordination in the construction of mechanical and electrical facilities of the structure have been carried out through the efforts of the author of this text and other colleagues working together in the Herampey Consulting Engineers Company.

Because of the specialized uses designated for this center this complex in addition to its decorative and technical considerations, has been designed for maximum efficiency. The stationary and non-stationary interior furniture has been specifically designed to meet the special needs of its users. To create a serene educational atmosphere cultural form, colors and special construction materials were selected in such way so that aside from financial practicality. The entire complex would good throughout.

The buildings of center consist of two relatively independent buildings. Each building is constructed in three stories and each floor has a specific use. Upon viewing the structure of two three story buildings which were designed to utilize the natural lay of the land in such a way that the roof of one part of the structure could serve as the front yard to the main building. The main building consists of three stories with a total area 21000 square meters. The ground floor and the first floor are constructed to520, 000 volumes are in place. The second floor consists of 18 scientific departments each of which consists of seven rooms for the scholars in addition to a meeting area and a specialized library for each department.

The lower building constructed using an area of ll000 square meters, consists of a continuation for the main library. a research center named Abu-Reyhan-e-Bearooni,  a printing and binding department a lobby at the entrance and a briefcase holding section. This structure contains special halls for discussion, lecture and contemplation. Each hall has a 70-person capacity and these halls are situated adjacent to an amphitheater having a 400-person seating capacity. This house of love and faith appears to be quite sturdy and is inclusive, truly representing itself as being a worthy guardian for the presence of its resident scholars and valuable texts. Complex, the personal experiences of the centers management were solicited throughout the construction process. From the design of the buildings to the interior decoration and furniture special care was taken to give the complex the gracefulness and the beauty it had to have along with the necessary technical and engineering considerations.
