BIOGRAPHY
Iranian architect Kourosh Farzami, who is best known for designing the main gate of Tehran University, has passed away at the age of 73. Farzami's design, which depicts two birds ready to fly, was selected from among countless designs submitted to a student competition.The famous design was published on 500-rial Iranian banknotes after the 1979 Islamic Revolution and the gate was registered on the country's National Cultural Heritage List.
Farzami founded the Archen Consulting Engineers Company in 1978, which has conducted numerous architectural projects in Iran. A graduate of Tehran University, Farzami designed many memorable structures and monuments such as the Tehran Clinic Hospital and Iran's pavilion at Japan's Expo '70 in Osaka.
